Emphasis on the Essentials

As I was waiting for the bus, at the end of the driveway with Ian yesterday morning, I asked him how school had gone the day before.

Ian zeroed in on the essentials: "I had a great lunch! It actually filled me up for the first time!!!"

He then advised me that actually the snack had not gone so well. I was afraid maybe it was a matter of taste, but the problem turned out to be that he hadn't realized how much time was allotted to eat it, so he didn't get a chane to finish.

I similarly tend to assess most experiences in terms of when, what, and how much food I got to eat.
