Exclusive Daytime Play

Daniel and I were playing with the Bat Castle, and he volunteered to play with the bad-guy action figures while I got Robin. Somewhat tongue-in-cheek, knowing Daniel's enthusiasm for badguydom, I asked him:

But aren't you sacred of bad guys?'

Daniel clarified, in a wonderfully nuanced way:

"Yeah at the night but they're never as scary at the day as at the night."

This is a confirmation of Ian's age-old observation, that "Daniel likes bad-guys at day and superheroes at night." In other words, at night-time, when we feel our own vulnerability, even the bad-guy fantasies of the daylight hours are all too vivid.
