Batman In Captivity - Discovered By Observers

Amy and I don't really sleep much, and we pretty-much always have someone small who wants things from us - especially attention - and, I think as a result of these circumstances, short-term memory is shot. As a result, I sometimes go into a mode where I function as my own forensics experts, deducing things that I must have done, but can't remember, based on physical evidence that parallels known patterns in my own behavior.

And based entirely on this investigation of the self from without, to which I have to resort in my current overwhelmedness, I am extremely confident - even though I can't remember it happening - that some time in the past 24 hours or so, I must have confiscated Batman from Daniel for corrective purposes. I "know" this because the evidence of things I, and nobody else int he family, have handled is available with just a quick look at the top of the refrigerator. We have a very tall refrigerator, so that's the "toy jail" and general confiscational detention center where I put things that have been taken away from correction-requiring children. For example, at this moment, there's a miniature bat - a small, souvenir-ish wooden bat, about 15 inches long - on the top of the refrigerator in the kitchen. This particular refrigerator is too tall not just for the children, but also for Amy. So things I confiscate go there to "serve their time," before they are remanded to the children, if I ever remember to do that. And tonight, Batman is lying on top of the refrigerator, looking quite unsatisfied. From this, I know Daniel did something bad involving Batman in the last day, and I took Batman away, but forgot to give him back.

They say that when you have children, you learn about yourself. More specifically, when I walk over to the refrigerator in the kitchen and peer over the top to see what the "stash" of paraphernalia looks like, I learn about how I have punished the small-ones in the relatively-recent past.

I don't remember the charges, but I think Batman will be released tomorrow, for good behavior. I hope that Daniel can sustain the good behavior that Batman inspires. If not, I'll learn about it as I pass the refrigerator some time in the next few days.
