The Five Year Old Reflects On His Many Centuries of Life
Tonight we went out for ice cream, for - for the lactose-intolerant among us - raspberry sorbet. Madeleine had rainbow-covered jimmies on top (for anyone from outside New England, the topping is called "sprinkles"). Ian had Gummy Bears a for a topping. And, of course, Daniel had both.
As I took him out of the car when we got home (he insisted that I carry him, so I was hoisting him onto my shoulders), Daniel announced:
"Daddy, I kind of haven't had Gummy Bears in years - like six years... or six hundred years."
I was curious as to whether there was any intended hyperbole, but there apparently wasn't; Daniel meant that he has gone roughly six centuries without Gummy Bears, until tonight.
