The Artist Plans for Unforeseen Birthdays of the Future

The party favors at the children's cousin's birthday party, last weekend, included a box of Crayola crayons for each child. Daniel drew three beautiful pictures for Madeleine last night, one of which was Christmas-themed (he also drew me Santa and Christmas lights and a gingerbread man recently), and I was impressed with his spontaneous generativity. But this evening, he showed how resourceful he can be as well, even in that most remote likelihood that we may, at some point in the future, be invited to another birthday party:

"Daddy, I have enough crayons to make a birthday card, if we ever go to a birthday again."
