Furnishing a Fork For Every Citizen

Ian made a beautiful diagram, out of two contiguous paper towels, which sits at present on our dining room table. It seems to be intended to hold forks for people before they sit down to eat, with a "berth" for each person's fork as marked. Each column - one for each family member - has the family member's first name - such as "Amy," two Daniels and Madeline [sic] up top, and their corresponding full initials at the bottom, with a right-arrow in the left column that reads "oldest" - appropriately starting with Amy's name - and a left-arrow in the right column that is marked "yongest" [sic], appropriately with Madeleine's fork-space next to it. This makes it very clear when the eye is moving from the oldest fork-possessors to the youngest fork-possessors, or vice versa.

In fact, there are two forks in the matrix at present, such that we're 40% ready for our next meal already.

Amy got excited at all of this, and said, "Oh - now maybe he can set the table."

I would argue that he is already setting the table, only in a far more methodical way that what we've come to accept as "normal."
