Dirty Batteries: Bring 'Em On!

I needed AA batteries this morning, and I knew the one person who could absolutely be relied upon to tell me where I could find them would be Ian. Of course, I was right: he knew that they were on top of the refrigerator in a wicker basket. But to clarify whether I needed new or used ones - already a good question - he asked, "Clean ones or dirty ones?"
