Extra care to prevent general alarm

At Saturday's birthday party, since it took place in a gym, the children all left their shoes, and in some cases socks, in cubbyholes. Eventually, Daniel needed to visit the restroom, so I had him put his shoes on for the journey, but told him he could leave his socks in the cubbyhole. But he wanted me to take his socks with me on our trip to the bathroom, and made clear that the stakes were very high:

"Just take them, so that nobody else thinks that somebody else doesn't have any socks."
