Daniel Discovers Sour

I have started a new beverage fad on the family ranch. Now that Pepsi (and colas in general) turn out, officially, to contain carcinogens (it turns out that the "caramel coloring" isn't actually caramel after all...) and I'm interested in losing some weight, and I'm Scottish-and-therefore-a-cheapskate, my drink of choice, aside from coffee and wine-out-of-a-box, is water mixed with lemon juice. You can't do it with reconstituted lemon juice, because it tastes too much like something out of a chemistry lab, but "real" lemon juice, not frozen and revived, tastes really good in water, even without sugar (this is new for me...). So I buy these wonderfully tacky lemon-shaped little bottles of fresh-like lemon juice and squeeze them into a glass of the local norther New England water that otherwise tastes like a geology experiment, and I like it, but more interestingly, Ian, Daniel and Madeleine all like it, too. So when I walked in the door this evening, after stopping at the grocery store en route from work, with three plastic, squeezble pseudo-lemons filled with juice (and one lime of the same description, only smaller and green), Daniel ran right over to me and tried to snatch one or two out of my arms. Eventually, I gave it to him, and the next thing I knew, he was trying to open the twist-off cap with his teeth. Technically, he knows what we do with the plastic-lemon-of-delight, but still he disappeared and came back a few minutes later. As he handed me the opened lemon-juice squeezy-thing, he requested: "Daddy, this tastes terrible, but can you mix it with water so that it tastes better and put it in my own cup?" (April 8, 2011)
