Confronting the Phobias In Our Lives

Yesterday, Ian asked me, "How do computers get scared?"

I was puzzled at first by this question, particularly coming from our resident scientist, but then the back-story shed light on the source of the curiosity: it turns out that Amy explained to the boys, at some point during a scary movie when the DVD skipped, that the DVD-player was scared.

Somehow, I think I might have had the same question, and the same perspective, if, in my richly Irish childhood, there existed such a thing as a DVD-player.
