The Linguistic Archaeology of Backpack

Daniel was puzzled by Ian's use of a new term - or an "old" one, depending on whom you ask, namely "knapsack," so Ian explained this odd term:

"Well a 'knapsack' is what they used to call it; a 'backpack' is the new thing to call it.
