The Sun Never Sets on the Roman Parking Lot

Ian asked me why so many words came from Latin. I started trying to explain by mentioning the vast reach of the Roman Empire. At this point, Daniel asked what an empire was, and I took a shot at trying to explain it to him. But Ian found a much more concrete paradigm:

"It's like me and you, Daniel, and we're fighting over the parts of the parking lot that we own."
