Amateur and Professional Diving

Daniel is "Diver" this evening. [Diver is his current favorite persona, which especially impresses me because this paradigm is not tied to any character from the media.]

First came pleasure, next came business.

For pleasure, we had a Divers show, where Daniel was The Green Diver, and Madeleine, in her turquoise Ariel pajamas, was Ariel [the mermaid, not Sharon]. Madeleine made a couple of attempts to designate me as "Crab" [presumably Sebastian from "The Little Mermaid,"] but each time, Daniel corrected her, establishing that I am the audience.

Then came business.

Daniel appointed me his boss in the diving enterprise. Daniel understands the boss-thing, because I use that figure to explain why I can't play with him when I'm working from home. I say something like, "I made a deal with my boss that, because there's so much snow, I can stay home today, but I have to work while I'm home."

So now Daniel will make an assertion, in the midst of dramatic play, that begins, "I made a deal with my boss..."

Tonight, he made me his boss, in his capacity as Green Diver, and he attempted a dialog with me which I bombed on my first line of improvisation:

Daniel: Boss?

Me: Yes, sir?

He clarified our nomenclature: "I'll call you 'Boss,' and you call me 'Green Diver,' and I am a green diver."

Looking at the globe, he was plotting our first excursion, in the Aclantic Ocean.

He continued: "It takes five hours."

I asked, "What does?"

Daniel answered, "To get to the Aclantic Ocean."

I suppose if all you had for transport was a skateboard, it would probably take you about five hours to get from our house to the Aclantic Ocean.
