Schedule-By-Numbers
Ian has spent much of today's stay-home-from-church sick-day agitating to "watch something," as in, tune into Hollywood-generated passive entertainment for as long as humanly possible, and I have been resisting the campaign. In order to strengthen the case for "watching something," Ian told me what Mommy's policy is: "Four-O-O is the time that Mommy lets us watch something."
I pushed very hard to see if he could tell me, in slightly less digital terms, what the meaning of "Four-O-O" is, and apparently he couldn't. What he knows is that when the digital clock in the kitchen displays 4 0 0 (presumably with a colon in the mix), then it's time to watch a video.
In my family, he's not the first child to take digital clocks at "face" value... Admittedly, I had no such hurdle to clear, since I was seven years old in the early 1970's.
