The Fluid Category Known as the Minute

The boys used to think that a minute was about as long as a second; now they think of it as being like an hour. I'll say that something is happening in five minutes, and one of them will say something like "Five minutes? That's a long time."

I was trying to get Daniel to stop watching "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" [yes, in mid-February] and get dressed so we could go out, an he offered:

"Why don't we watch it for, like, a little less than a minute."

Of course, I'd be fine with that, if we had the same understanding of what constitutes a minute...
