Boy's Best Friend

Last night, Daniel was lying in bed with Amy, and he pulled the blanket up over his head. He explained to her that he was doing that to hide from the bad guys.

Amy tried to explain, in different ways, that he was safe from the bad guys, but he was having none of it. She asked him something like, "Don't you think Mommy can fight off the bad guys?" Daniel speculated, "Daddy can fight the bad guys."

However, I wasn't in the room at the time.

Amy told him that she could scare them off by spanking them and yelling at them. For whatever reason, Daniel didn't consider that to be a particularly viable deterrent...

Finally Amy explained to him that the bad guys couldn't get into the house, because we have a special bad-guy alarm system known as the dogs, and that when the bad guys heard the dogs barking, they'd be afraid to come into the house.

This one worked. Daniel was quite satisfied with the security system once it was explained to him. And he went on to opine: "Everybody should have dogs."
