"Just How American is the U.S.A?"

The boys got hold of a set of small, ornamental paper flags on toothpick flag-poles which Mommy had used for Ian's birthday and was apparently recycling for another occasion (or perhaps they were left-overs). They were both very curious about which flag corresponded to which country. Finally this conversation occurred:

Daniel: Which one is "U. S. A."?

Me: This one.

Daniel: Oh no, Daddy - that's th'American flag [sic].
