A Friend Beyond This World

One of the great things about being in first grade is that you can use the phrase "my new best friend," with complete sincerity; at my age you normally see that language in political satire.

Tonight I learned (to my earnest delight) that Brendan, from school, is Ian's "new best friend." (He has needed a new best friend for awhile...)

Then he showed me a picture he drew and colored and told me it was a picture of "me and Brendan about to land on the moon."
