The Best Time Ever

Saturday, Indian Summer was in full-swing in New England, despite the cool weather we have had before and (now, already two days later) afterward, so we headed straight for the beach, where the three kids and Daddy actually went in the water, along with a daring friend of mine who had come along.

Ian was literally having the time of his life jumping in the waves. Toward the end of the day, he reported the three following, closely related, data-points:

1. "This is the best!"

[I asked him what he meant:]

2. This is the best time I've ever had!

3. This is the most fun I've ever had!

Before we left the beach, he asked me if I had ever played in the waves when I was a boy.
