Explanation

We were among The Displaced in New England's recent wind storm - our house lost power for something approaching two days... The outage kicked in in the middle of the first night, so for the second, we had to go somewhere else (no generator), and so we came back to the house in the evening to get our clothes and other essentials and bring them to our friends' house.

I guess Ian was a bit traumatized by the experience - or at least felt the need to sort-of work it out... While we were bringing things into the car, getting ready for the overnight trip, Ian stopped, and seemed to be talkking softly to a tall plant in front of our house.

I asked him what he was doing, and he explained, "I was just explaining to him why we need to go."
