Filling the Dessert Backlog
Ian was agitating tonight for an ad hoc compensatory dessert, ahead of dinner, to make up for past wrongs. I was taking care of the young'uns while Amy was in class, and Ian spent a fair bit of time, once we got home, talking about possibly having a cookie or a brownie, because Mommy had told him that he could have one earlier in the day, and that promise had not yet been fulfilled.
I explained to him that supper comes first - once he finishes supper, we can talk about dessert.
At that point, he explained the difference between routine and extraordinary dessert:
"But Daddy, this isn't dinner-dessert. It's from Mommy, and she forgot to give it to me."
