Paws to Reconsider

Daniel didn't want to let Madeleine play with one of his toys this morning - I think it was a plush stuffed snake, which, it later turned out, the boys had planned to go into Daniel's new wooden castle "to eat the queen," but I insisted he let her hold it. [I generally make the children share their toys, within reason...] Daniel informed me that the snake was only intended for him and Ian, so I, to be contrary in a symmetrical way, told him that it was only for Madeleine and Nikkei [the dog]. At that point, Daniel pointed out a logistical limitation I hadn't considered:

"Daddy, Nikkei has paws, so he can't hold our toys very well."
