More Language Acquisition on the Go
We were in Chinatown (again) last night, and Ian made another effort to see what he could learn of Cantonese (presumably) through the power of direct experience. It can't be stressed enough that there's nothing toung-and-cheek about these efforts; he's really trying to see if he can learn Chinese by listening to people talk and trying to repeat what he hears. He mused on this point as we were coming out of a Chinese bakery:
"Mommy, I know 'hung-yah' is a Chinese word; I just don't know what it means."
