Hedging his bets - Daniel emerges as a Republicrat

Daniel rather spontaneously reported his recent political affiliations, while I was driving him and Iasn home this past evening:

He suddenly piped up, "Daddy, I voted for Rakabama and John McCain."

I have no idea what inspired his disclosure, but I encouraged him to tell me more, so he elaborated, "First I voted for Rakabama, then for John McCain."

It reminded me of John Kerry's quip that essentially buried his presidential campaign, when he was talking about the Iraq war - something to the effect of "First I voted for it, then I voted against it."

In any case, this is a new development, because until tonight, Daniel's Democratic credentials were impeccable. As we all know, back in November, when they actually did vote in the local children's election held at the otherwise grown-up polling station, Ian reported voting for John McCain - so that he could, thereby, vote for the pretty and very-maternally-mannered Sarah Palin, whereas Daniel claimed to have voted for Rakabama. But tonight, I find out that Daniel actually voted for both. (I have a sneaking suspicion that tonight's reported second vote is one of the mind, in the here-and-now, rather than a historical development dating back to November...)

Many people, especially in our country, seem to go to the polls in order, effectively, to vote against a particular candidate. There's something very refreshing in hearing that Daniel actually voted for the candidates, and both of them, no less...
