Who's Who in the Bavarian Black Forest

Daniel and Ian were listening to a particularly airy-fairy reading of "Hansel and Gretel" on cassette, where the narrator was pronouncing Hansel was it likely would be in German - more like "Henssel" than "Hansel" as we know it, and Daniel summed up the gender distinction between the two characters for me.

"Daddy, Mommy said that Pencil is the girl, and I think that Gretel is the boy."
