What do the Numbers Tell Us?

Yesterday, I told Ian he couldn't watch any DVD's until 5:30 p.m. I have this wholesome-country-livin' idea that the young'uns shouldn't be watcing TV while the sun is still out, and sundown kicks in around that time, this time of year in New England, so that's my rule. But I'm also trying to use the restriction to help him learn how to tell time - at least from a digital clock - since he's always checking the clock - from early in the day on - to see whether it's 5:30 yet.

Yesterday afternoon, at 3:49 Kitchen-Time (the digital clock on the kitchen stove is our Greenwich), he asked me:

"Daddy can I watch something? There's a 4 a 9 and a 3, and the 4 is in the middle."
