A Heartwarming Homecoming

Yesterday, when I got home, after being out only for several hours, both boys were thrilled to see me. I hugged Daniel for awhile and put him down again, he reached to be picked up again, and made it obvious he doesn't want to be put down. So I sat back on the couch with him on my lap, and he gets up at one point, ritually passes me a small yellow back-hoe to hold during his absence, and told me, "I'll go get my rice-milk, then I'll come back on your lap."

In fact, when I was working on my laptop literally on my lap on the floor, he came by and wanted to sit with me, so I put my work aside, and he just sat there for something like ten to twenty minutes, playing with little toys on the floor beside us, making his normal youthful comments about things, but fundamentally just sitting on my lap as an end unto itself.

When Amy or I are working in the office at home - not to mention when we're both there - the boys will tend to migrate toward that room and spend all kinds of time there, continuing their games and bantering as if in a real playroom, because apparently wherever we go is the real life of the party...
