Election Day Aftermath
Ian is crestfallen that John McCain didn't win the election. Five-year-olds can get pretty invested in presidential politics. The recurrent, wistful reflection is, "I wanted Sarah Palin." And always rather sing-song, if a bit mournful.
Daniel, on the other hand, is officially pleased with Senator Obama's election to the highest office in the land.
However, he isn't quite as familiar with the cast of characters as I had imagined. As we were watching the President-elect's victory speech on the Internet, Daniel asked, "Is that John McCain?"
Meanwhile, it turns out that we have a pack of Republican cavies on our hands. Yes, we have six guinea pigs. And Ian asserted last night that the five girls had voted for John McCain. The one boy, Baby, was identified as an Obama voter. However, Ian corrected the record approximately a minute after "outing" Baby as a Democrat, and announced that Baby, too, had voted for McCain. Our state isn't that big; you mighta thought the race would have been closer, with such a large McCain following in our basement.
Ian, meanwhile, told my sister, Ann, that I had voted for "boaf" of them. I don't really know what Diebold would have done with such a ballot, but I don't think it would have scanned quite right.
